Vietnam has opened its borders to all passengers, regardless of vaccination status, and visas are now the only way in.

Bon, voyage! These new Vietnamese travel regulations are part of the country’s gradual reopening strategy, which fully aims to reintroduce tourists by the third quarter of 2022. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of everything you need to know about unvaccinated travel to Vietnam so you can start making plans.!

Vietnam borders now fully open with no COVID restrictions

With new regulations in mid-May, Vietnam has taken another significant step toward fully welcoming tourists back.

There will be no need to present a negative PCR test upon arrival in Vietnam, and health declarations have already been phased out.

All COVID-related entry requirements for entering Vietnam have been eliminated, but passengers are reminded to check airline regulations, as many airlines require a PCR test for boarding.

Although quarantine regulations were suspended earlier this year, and Vietnam has never required proof of vaccination, PCR tests and health declarations have been needed until now.

Some domestic regulations remain in effect, such as wearing facemasks in public and issuing health warnings ranging from level 1-4, depending on the health situation in each compound.

Vaccinated travelers aged 12 and up and those who have recovered from COVID-19 within the last six months may travel to Vietnam as long as they have a valid visa and meet the COVID-19 travel requirements. It is no longer necessary to book group tours to travel to Vietnam.

Under the current travel restrictions, unvaccinated travelers cannot visit Vietnam.

Who can enter Vietnam now?

Since March 15, the borders to Vietnam have reopened, allowing tourists to enter via land, sea, and air. Regardless of vaccination status, all visitors to Vietnam must follow the same entry procedures.

The Vietnamese COVID certificate meets EU standards, and Vietnam accepts certificates from 78 countries.

All these countries have a high safety index and a high vaccination rate. Vietnamese authorities accept all vaccines approved by the WHO and the EMA.

Vietnam has reverted to pre-pandemic visa policies, granting visa-free entry to a few nationalities and 30-day e-Visas to others.

Each traveler must have COVID-19 treatment insurance with a minimum liability of USD 10,000.

Note: Requirements differ depending on how you arrive in Vietnam; arriving by sea or land may cause additional requirements.

Official Vietnam vaccine certificate released.

It announced the Vietnamese COVID passport on May 12 to be mutually recognized by 81 countries, allowing Vietnamese tourists to enter countries that still require proof of vaccination.

The EU declared that Vietnam’s vaccine pass is equivalent to the EU Digital COVID Certificate.

“With the accession of Indonesia, Seychelles, and Vietnam, the number of countries and territories connected to the EU system has increased to 67. Given the summer, the EU certificate will facilitate the movement of Europeans within the EU and beyond,” said Didier Reynders, European Commissioner for Justice.

Japan, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, India, Belarus, Cambodia, Philippines, Palestine, Maldives, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Turkey, Singapore, Saint Lucia, Republic of Korea, Iran, Malaysia, and the Dominican Republic have also entered bilateral agreements with Vietnam.

Local COVID-19 Rules and Regulations

• FACEMASK – In Vietnam, wearing a mask is required in all indoor public places. Failure to wear an act will cause a hefty fine.
• SOCIAL DISTANCING – Social distancing rules apply throughout the country.
• DISINFECTION - Wash your hands often with soap or hand sanitizer. Clean frequently touched surfaces/items (doorknobs, cellphones, tablets, tables, chairs,....). Keep clean, keep the house well ventilated.
• NO GATHERING - No gathering of crowds
• HEALTH DECLARATION - Make medical declarations on the PC Covid App to be warned about the risk of Covid-19 infection. When there are signs of fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, please contact the Ministry of Health at 19009095 or the local health center’s hotline for advice, support, and instructions on safe medical examination.

Curfews could be implemented on short notice. Public transportation can be canceled. Different restrictions apply in other parts of the country. Each province has its COVID-19 prevention requirements, which can change quickly.

What do travelers test positive for COVID-19 after arrival?

If you have COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival, you must be tested at the international border gate.

If you test positive after arriving, you will be quarantined at your lodging and treated by the Ministry of Health regulations.

You must also keep track of your health within 14 days of arrival. If you experience any symptoms or test positive during your stay, please notify the staff immediately and follow all regulations.

Vietnam Named as Best Country to Visit Post-Pandemic

Vietnam has been named the first destination to visit once international travel resumes following COVID-19, according to the American magazine “Travel and Leisure.”

The American publication highlighted the stunning landscapes of Vietnam as one reason to prioritize a trip to the Asian country. Vietnam’s UNESCO World Heritage Site and other natural wonders will probably be even more beautiful because of reduced foot traffic in recent months.
